Oldham 0-0 Barrow: Sunshine, Clean Sheets, and Sky Cameras

Back at Boundary Park for a late kick-off, courtesy of Sky Sports. It was our first game without our captain Tom, who’s sadly out for the season. Wishing you a speedy recovery, Tom – you’re already missed. So up steps Tom Pett to take on the captain’s armband.

A Rare October Gift

Glorious sunshine bathed Boundary Park, which for October is incredibly rare but absolutely stunning. It set the scene for what we hoped would be a memorable afternoon under the cameras.

First Half: Good Play, No Finish

The first half saw us passing and playing well, building some promising moves. The problem? Once we got to the box, no one seemed willing to pull the trigger. Manny and Will at the back were standing strong, a solid defensive partnership, and with Hudson between the sticks, nothing was getting past us. The frustration was simple – we just couldn’t get it into their net.

For a late kick-off on Sky, it was brilliant to see over 7,000 of us there, with a strong contingent of around 500 traveling Barrow supporters making the journey. The atmosphere was building.

Second Half: Beautiful Sunset, Frustrating Football

As the second half began, the sun set behind the stands, leaving behind a beautiful sunset that, unfortunately, turned out to be the nicest takeaway from the game. We still couldn’t find the back of the net.

Quigley came off and Fondop came on to a very warm welcome from the Jimmy Frizzell Stand. But he too couldn’t find that elusive goal.

Then Caprice came on for Ogle, and finally we had someone willing to take a shot! A couple of misses followed, but at least he was trying – showing the urgency we’d been lacking.

The Final Chance

In the dying minutes, we got a corner and Will Sutton had the best chance of the game. Hit it anywhere but at the keeper and we’d have won it. But no.

The Result

Game finished 0-0. A point on the board and another clean sheet for Hudson, who was unlucky not to get the League 2 Player of the Month award but being in the final four is a great achievement in itself.

Nice Touches

It was lovely to see Charlie Reglan back at Boundary Park. What a class act he is – he remembered Odie’s name and said hi to him while retrieving the ball during the game. Thanks, Charlie.

Oh, and I also got sent a picture of me on Sky this time! 😁🫣
