Three Wins, Three Clean Sheets: Oldham 2-0 Crawley
Sunny Days at Boundary Park
Today’s game was against Crawley, back at Boundary Park, and it looks like the clouds are parting and the sun is coming out! In February! Didn’t think I’d need my shades π.
Dominant First Half
We dominated the first half, even though Crawley have – I think – the worst away record in the league. And the ref was on their side. I thought Dale Baines almost needed a police escort off the pitch at half time!
We passed the ball with composure and looked like we only wanted to walk it into the back of the net.
But then we broke forward, crossed to the back post where Stevens gets it and slots it home! 1-0. Great to see Stevens on top form.
The weirdest throw-in from them – he kind of ran in the shape of a J. Bizarre, and for them, nowhere.
Half Time Sunshine
Half time and the sun comes out. We don’t need the floodlights on now, but guessing we can’t save the money and turn them off!
Stevens Does It Again
Looks like we’re starting the second half where we left off.
The ref awards them a free kick just outside our box. We head it clear into Stevens’ path, and he runs from our own half all the way and keeps his composure to put it in the back of the net! 2-0, and Boundary Park is really hotting up.
We Need a Song for Stevens
We need a song for Stevens for sure! How about a Shakin’ Stevens song with good chant potential?
π΅ “This Ole House” – probably his most famous, and the chorus has a brilliant terrace rhythm. Something like:
“This ole Jack, he’s our number elevenThis ole Jack, gonna send us to heavenThis ole Jack, scoring goals all dayJack Stevens, Latics all the way!”
Or something! Come on, fans with a better musical taste than me – let’s get him a song!
Card Happy Ref
A lot of cards today that I feel we didn’t deserve. And looks like Micky Mellon and the goalkeeper coach also received a card each! π«£
Individual Performances
Have to say, Matthew Hudson pulled out some great saves today. And Manny Monthe driving down the wing was brilliant to see.
I enjoyed seeing Fondop track back when Robson got wiped out into the boarding in the second half, so he covered his place until he was back on his feet. That’s the kind of work rate and team spirit we need.
The Stats That Matter
3 games, 3 wins, 3 clean sheets. Come on, the boys in blue!
Onto Bromley on Tuesday night. Let’s keep this momentum going.
